Tarot 5 - The Hierophant

Card 5 of the tarot is The Hierophant.

Meaning according to Arthur Edward Waite- Marriage alliance, captivity, servitude, mercy and goodness, inspiration, the man to whom the Querent has recourse. Reversed: Society, good understanding, concord, over-kindness, weakness.

Notes: Once again, Waite seems to be all over the place with these meanings. Since the Hierophant is basically the pope I guess Waite's interpretation is divine inspiration and serving God? Getting captured by God? By your spouse? Yikes. I think of this card as the leader of organized religion, where the Emperor and Empress are the leaders of state, and leave it at that.
