Card 17 of the tarot is The Star.
Meaning according to Arthur Edward Waite- Loss, theft, privation, abandonment, although another reading suggests hope and bright prospects for the future. Reverse: Arrogance, impotence, haughtiness.
Notes: More disagreements/contradictions in Waite's interpretations. The Star is one I always look forward to in a deck, and I see it as a sign of guidance and hope. There is a connection here to temperance with the water being poured from two vessels, and the figure in each card has a foot on land and one in the water. I think of Temperance as the divine overseeing and mixing life while The Star is setting it free to wander the sea and land.
